BSc Interactive Media, Class of 2025

The experience is expanded through transmedia elements, including character driven social media accounts and a website blog that allow the audience to influence drive deeper into the lives of the characters.

At its heart, this project explores how mockumentary techniques and participatory storytelling can foster deeper emotional connection and immersive engagement. Through humour, tension, and unexpected moments of sincerity, “the group project” invites audiences to laugh, cringe, and reflect on the nature of teamwork and failure.

The Group Project

The group project is a transmedia mockumentary short film that follows the chaotic journey of five university students trapped in a day-long detention. Assigned to complete a group project before they are allowed to leave, the students must navigate clashing personalities, procrastination, miscommunication, and teamwork.

Shot in the comedic, deadpan style of The Office (US) and Parks and Recreation, the project blends fictional storytelling with documentary realism. Featuring handheld camerawork, direct-to-camera confessionals, and improvisational dialogue.
