Reels Rewired

This project aims to examine the impact that short form video platforms such as Instagram Reels and TikTok have on students’ productivity, a topic that is becoming increasingly prominent within the last several years.

Through interviews with students and a vice-president from the student’s union, my research explores the impact on everyday life, academic studies and mental health, alongside investigating methods to break the cycle created by these apps.

The interviews are presented in short form video format, on a website, visually representing the platforms in discussion therefore encouraging the viewer to further think about their impact. The videos are randomly generated and mixed alongside a ‘TikTok style feed’, creating an immersive and familiar user experience that mirrors the platforms in discussion.

The project aims to open up conversation and encourage users to think about the impact on their own everyday life, and how easily it can slip under the radar.
